Walkers and Cross Country load into the Newington Armory

Published Fri 06 Jun 2025

10km Road Walk Championship

Our walking athletes delivered outstanding performances with Antoinette Woodward leading the charge with a spectacular new club record in the Women's 65+ division, clocking 1:09:23. This remarkable achievement sets the stage perfectly for Antoinette's upcoming challenge in Canberra.

Results:

  • Women's 50+ Gold Medal: Nicolle Challinor - 1:23:37.00
  • Women's 55+: Carmel Parker - 1:23:37.00
  • Women's 65+: Antoinette Woodward - 1:09:23 NEW CLUB RECORD!

Cross Country Relay Championships

After last year's muddy quagmire that left athletes losing shoes and sliding around the course, this year's conditions were much more manageable. The ground remained soft underfoot, making cross-country spikes the smart footwear choice. Race organisers thoughtfully placed carpets over bitumen surfaces as the course wound around the Armory's gentle slopes.

Team Results

Female Open A Team - 7th Place The young talent of Matilda Ryan, Beatrice Garnys, Mia Guillergan, and Ava Garnys represented the club with distinction, finishing 7th overall in a competitive field.

Female 40-49 A Team The experienced Deb Drennan blooded some new talent at the club in Sandy Hoy, and Keri Garnys, with newcomer Alison Lumley making her cross-country debut and completing the 40+ division with style. The start of a new chapter in masters women distance running at the club.

Male 50-59 A Team - 4th Place (Highest Club Placing) Despite some confusion with mixed signals from lane officials at the changeover point, our men's team of Lindsay Scholle, Jason McIntosh, Brad Sharpe, and Antony Guest secured our best team result of the day. The challenging 2km loop course featured a Y-shaped changeover zone that proved tricky to navigate. Unfortunately, while Antony was running back around the markers, a fast-finishing Easts team managed to overtake for the final podium spot.

Individual Highlight: Jason McIntosh (55) set a new club record in the Men's 50 Division with a blistering 4km split of 15:32.

(Previously communicated as Lindsay Scholle (57) - however a change to the actual run order and published times was not administered on the day)

Record-Breaking Relay Performance

The 4x4km Cross Country Relay team of Nick Walker (39), Shane Decker (41), Jason McIntosh (55) and Brad Sharpe (64) delivered an incredible performance, setting a new club record with a time of 1:13:18 in the 30+ Division. Nick Walker opened with a cracking split of 14:12, setting the tone for what became another memorable club record.
