We share the very sad news that Mark Cepak, a much loved and long standing member of our club passed away on 18 October 2025. He was 66 years old.
Mark Cepak joined UTS Norths in 2005 and competed in all the jumps including pole vault, along with throws and sprints, gaining many valuable points in the Club Premiership competition.
UTS Norths dominated that competition from 2008 to 2013 and Mark and his family were significant contributors to those victories.
Together with his children Andrew, Chris and Eliza and wife Jenni, the Cepak clan were UTS Norths members at the same time as Stuart Paterson, his children Myalls, Tristan and Amanda and wife Janet Naylon. The two families had a friendly rivalry as to which one scored the most points for the club each Saturday.
Mark went onto to represent Australia at the World Masters Championships in Riccione, Italy in 2007 where he competed in the M45 Decathlon, Discus, Weight Throw and Weight Pentathlon.
Mark was the epitome of a club member. He always volunteered for relays, giving his all in every event, and leaving a lasting legacy. He currently holds the UTS Norths 45-49 years men’s hammer throw and weight throw records, as well as several notable relay records:
* 4 x Javelin 122.82m M120+ and M160+ (with Ashley McMahon, Ryan Dowling, Zoran Novicic), 2017
* 4 x Javelin 93.84m M240+ (with Chris Greatrex, Trevor Young, Zoran Novicic), 2023
Mark worked in the telecommunications industry - hence his nickname the Transformer, ‘Optimus Prime’.
Our thoughts are with Jenni, Andrew, Chris and Eliza at this sad time.
There will be a public funeral at North Shore Crematorium with the date to be announced. If you would like the funeral details, please email us at info@utsnorthsath.com.au.
