He has coached Australian athletes to qualify for five consecutive Olympic Games and has played a significant role in developing some of the country’s most successful sprint athletes.
Mike coached two athletes to the 400m finals at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, where Maree Holland (50.24 seconds) and Darren Clark (44.38 seconds) established current NSW Open Records. Darren Clark’s performance remains the Australian national record. Mike also coached Clark to Commonwealth Games gold in the 400m at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and a national record bronze medal performance at the 1993 World Indoor Championships.
As a team coach and manager, Mike led the NSW men’s and women’s teams to victory in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays at the 1989 Australian Relay Championships in Hobart. He has also developed numerous junior athletes, including three schoolgirls who competed at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Seoul (1992) and Lisbon (1994).
Mike coached Kylie Hanigan to represent Australia in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay finals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
He has been the driving force behind the highly regarded Athletics NSW 400 Fastrack Development Program, providing coaching, mentoring, and guidance to athletes, personal coaches, and parents since its establishment.
Mike is a Life Member of Athletics Australia and is recognised internationally for his coaching knowledge and philosophy. His expertise has been featured through interviews with leading global coaching organisations, including the World Speed Summit, ALTIS, SpeedEndurance.com, and in The Sprinter’s Compendium.
Beyond athletics, Mike has extensive experience as a strength, power, and speed consultant, working with elite performers across multiple sports, including a Wimbledon men’s singles finalist, a Sydney Kings captain, an Opals squad member, and an NBA draft selection.
