Big Weekend for UTS Norths at State Relays

NOVEMBER 18, 2014

Another year at the ANSW state relays and another big year for our club. With 103 teams taking the track and field over the weekend, the number of teams were a bit fewer than recent years, but there was no lack of quality throughout all age groups and across all disciplines.

In summary we won 23 gold medals, 15 silvers and 15 bronze, with  14 club records and 2 state relay records by the Women's Masters 200+ team in the 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m. Highlights were the 3 open gold medals by the men's 4 x 400m (James Gurr, Alex Moore, Matt Crowe, Sean Fitzsimmons), men's medley (Anthony Collum Sean Fitzsimmons James Gurr, Will Austin Cray) and women's medley (Katrina Hunt, Bella O'Grady, Alexandra Bartholomew, Trychelle Kingdom) breaking the club record by a massive 6 seconds and running the third fastest state relay women's medley in ANSW history.

A big thank you to all the age conveners for selecting the teams and being out at SOPAC all weekend to make sure the teams were re shuffled due to injuries and teams were on the track on time. In particular I would like to thank Peter Douglas, Ross Douglas and Ron Bendall for their huge efforts over the weekend to ensure the smooth running of the UTS Norths relays teams. There are many hours each year and years of knowledge in the running of these events that these three club stalwarts bring. Our success on the track is a testament to their efforts.

Finally thank you to you the athletes. This is the biggest club team event of the year and it is your outstanding performances that keep it an ongoing success . I am sure you have taken away many life long memories to cherish through all those long gruelling training sessions. Its always worth it.

Andy West

President - UTS Northern Suburbs Athletic Club
