Three UTS North's athletes selected for Doha World Championships
SEPTEMBER 10, 2019
Congratulations to UTS North's members Bella O'Grady, Kristie Edwards and Carley on their selection in the Australian team for the World Athletics Championships in Doha.
Bella, 22, coached by Penny Gillies, had a serious hamstring injury, which kept her out of most of the summer season. However, she has made a good recovery and recently ran a PB of 51.87 at the recent World Uni Games in Japan. She was only just outside the A qualifier of 51.80 for the individual event.
Kristie, 19, coached by Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, has shown excellent recent form during the winter. She ran a PB of 11.75 in the Oceania Championships in June to help clinch her place on the open relay team.
Carley Thomas, 19, coached by Mauricia Powell, has been selected as an 800 metre runner. She had an excellent season getting her 800 metres time down close to the elusive 2 minute mark. She improved from 2:03.66 to 2:01.13 during the last summer season. She continued that form during the recent IAAF Diamond League meets in Europe. She improved her PB to 2:01.01 at a Diamond League meet in London. This was enough to clinch her selection.
Good luck Bella, Kristie and Carley.

Leo and Will Flying High in the Mountains
SEPTEMBER 16 , 2019
Leo Peterson and Will Atkinson competed at the Australian Mountain Running Championships last weekend. This is a 14km trail race over 750m of elevation and was hosted by Brisbane Queensland this year. Both did very well and overall Will came 4th and Leo 5th.
As a result, both Leo and Will have made the Australian Team and will compete at the IAAF World Mountain Running Championships in Argentina, Patagonia in November. Leo described the event as "Brutal ha ha, pretty good conditions but warm"
Their performances, when combined with former UTS Member Nick Walker, secured a silver medal for Athletics NSW.
