Track and Field Athletics in the Winter
JUNE 15, 2019
Track and Field Athletics in the winter? "Why not" said almost 40 athletes and volunteer officials yesterday at the first ever winter Northern Zone meet at Rotary Field. It was a lovely sunny afternoon for the sprinters, jumpers and throwers.
At least 20 of the athletes were throwers who had a field day with a smorgasbord of throwing events on offer. The action started with the shot put and javelin but later the new hammer cage was put to good use with the discus and of course the hammer throw. The keen ones stayed on late in the afternoon for the weight throw. The sprinters enjoyed good conditions for the 60m, 100m and 400m, not forgetting some good competition amongst the long and high jumpers.
Two more winter meets to be held on 13th July and 10th August.
See the UTS Norths website for further details.
